Dora's Rescue Story!

January 22nd, 2009

Dora

• Name: Dora

• Rescued From: South LA Shelter

• Journey: Dora, a 1.5 year old beagle mix, was dumped at a shelter along with her brother, Toby, by their owner. He claimed he did not have time for them anymore. After only 2 weeks, Dora was placed on the dreaded “red list” and was at risk of being imminently euthanized. AAA rescued Dora and her brother and took them immediately to the vet, where they spent nearly a month fighting severe upper respiratory infections. When she was finally determined to be healthy, Dora went to a foster home and, due to her loving and submissive nature, was adopted almost instantly! Although Dora was not adopted with her brother, Toby, she does have a cat sibling that continues to fascinate her!

• Adoptive Family: Campbell-Belle Family

• Favorite Activity: Sitting in her person’s lap

Cleo has a Message!

January 20th, 2009

Cleo 2

My name is Cleo and I am a three-year old angel who happens to be a pit bull. My previous owners tried to make me look tough by cutting off my ears, but as soon as you meet me, you’ll discover that I am a very gentle girl who just likes to give kisses! They dumped me and my puppies at the shelter when I got pregnant and although all of my puppies were adopted, I was not. The volunteers at the shelter loved me so much that they refused to let me die there and asked Animal Advocates Alliance to rescue me. Everyone says I am exceptionally beautiful and good natured! I was looking for a foster or forever home, but I guess I was so nice and friendly with my foster family that they decided to ADOPT ME!!! so now I just play with my chihuahua sisters and hang out with my family. Don’t let all the negative hype fool you, we pits love our families (human and animal) very much and make great family dogs, some humans just decide to abuse us and then blame us for being scared and insecure so just give us a chance and you’ll see. I bet most of you don’t know this but we started out as nanny dogs!

Zoey's Rescue and Adoption Story!

January 20th, 2009

Zoey

• Name: Zoey

• Rescued From: South LA Animal Shelter

• Journey: When Animal Advocates Alliance board member Michele first saw 18-month-old Zoey in April of 2008, she was cowering in a corner of her cage with seven other dogs. When she was found by Animal Control Officers on the streets of south Los Angeles, she was nearly 50% underweight due to intestinal parasites and covered in scabs from flea bites. Upon arrival at the shelter, her coat was so hopelessly matted that the vet staff had to shear off all of her fur. Michele pulled her from the shelter, and she was placed in foster care, where it soon became apparent that little Zoey had been neglected, had never been socialized, and had likely suffered physical abuse. However, she soon began to trust her foster parents and her new sister, Peanut. Her intestinal parasite was successfully treated, and she quickly doubled her weight! Although she is still learning to trust strangers and working on some fear/anxiety issues, Zoey turned out to be the sweetest, most affectionate dog toward her foster family. They, of course, fell completely in love with her, and never even looked for another family to adopt her!

• Adoptive Family: The Westhoff Family

• Favorite Activity: Wrestling with her sister Peanut

Sydney's Amazing Rescue!

January 20th, 2009

Sydney

• Name: Sydney

• Rescued From: South LA Animal Shelter

• Journey: Sydney was brought to the shelter after being hit by a car in south Los Angeles. At six months old and weighing only about five pounds, she had likely been a stray since birth. She had a concussion when she arrived at the shelter, but amazingly, x-rays did not show any broken bones! Still, when potential adopters learned of her accident, they decided against adopting her, and little Sydney ended up on the “red list” at the shelter. Animal Advocates Alliance rescued her and placed her in foster care. Soon a college friend of the foster family (whose entire family is “Chihuahua crazy!”) saw Sydney’s picture, fell in love with her, and adopted her. Sydney has left her rough beginnings behind, and now lives in a beautiful West Hollywood home overlooking Sunset Boulevard. In addition to her new mom, Sydney’s roommates include five other humans and three Lab Retrievers: Max, Oprah, and Gail!
