Earlier this month the Humane Society of the United States, ASPCA and Maddie’s Fund filed a lawsuit in New York claiming that the trustees of Leona Helmsley’s estate are misdirecting trust funds that Helmsley had dedicated to animal welfare causes. The trustees had earlier asked the court to relieve them of their obligation to give the money to animal welfare groups, which the court granted. Despite Helmsley’s express wishes that the money be used specifically for animal welfare, the trustees’ initial distribution of $136 million funds allocated less than $100,000 to such charities. This is a really funny video of a very friendly dog (a pit bull) being profiled for adoption, licking the face off a local news reporter. It’s pretty adorable.
Update – Panda is Guaranteed to Brighten Up Your Day!
August 23rd, 2009
Panda is an incredibly sweet and happy three-year-old female Bulldog/Staffie mix. Panda was found on the streets of Los Angeles and is currently in a temporary foster home. Panda is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and in need of a great foster home or better yet a forever home. Her recent foster absolutely loved her but had landlord issues and Panda is now back in boarding. We recently discovered that Panda is actually fine with bigger dogs but should not be in a home with small animals but her tail never stops wagging with people around and she absolutely loves to go for walks. She knows many commands and is very responsive to training and loves treats. She is potty trained and crate-trained. She’s about 50-55lbs. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this sweet girl that is sure to bring you smiles and happy energy please contact Phillip at PhillipG@AnimalAdvocatesAlliance.org or 310.285.8422. Sly is one Handsome Pup Looking for a Home
August 23rd, 2009
Sly Malone is one handsome German Shepherd/Doberman mix!!! In fact, he looks like a perfect 50/50 split between both breeds! He’s neutered, approximately 2 years old and weighs a sleek 78 lbs. He’s a medium energy dog and just a big, goofy puppy. Sly has been professionally trained and knows all of his commands! He gets along swimmingly with other dogs and will engage in playful tag when he meets a dog willing and able to reciprocate the game. He loves car rides and loves to bury his face in a bowl of fresh water- he wants to scuba dive. Sly is a sweet dog who only wants to be loved and to love someone back. Could you be that someone?
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Sly please contact Lee at LeeG@animaladvocatesalliance.org or call 310.285.8422. You will also need to complete and submit the following: ONLINE APPLICATION
Dogs on Lifeguard Duty in Italy
August 21st, 2009
Dogs have long been used in various types of rescue work, but now some dogs in Italy can add a new skill to their resumes: Lifeguard! A select group of highly trained Golden Retrievers and Newfoundland Hounds have been patrolling Italian beaches this summer with their human lifeguard partners, and are capable of performing rescues jointly with their handlers, or on their own. Hurray for Pepe!!!
August 18th, 2009
Our sweet Pepe (now Pincho) was adopted a few weeks ago and here’s what his new mom has to say:
“So Pepe has become Pincho, the word for a little snack eaten in northern Spain, a lot like tapas that you don’t share. He and Presley are absolutely inseparable. They wrestle like mad men all morning, ride in my bike basket to work, hang out in the bakery, then home again for more crazy play.
Pincho is a rock star at the bakery. Customers know him by name and sometimes stop in just to see him. He sits on the counter and practically jumps into everyone’s arms. Everyone wants to know where he came from and there have even been offers to buy him. The highest bid so for was $4,000, how about that? Like I said, he’s a rock star.”
Michael Vick’s Total Lack of Remorse
August 18th, 2009
What is up with Michael Vick? He has shown absolutely no remorse or regret over his crimes against dogs. He literally, with his own two hands, electrocuted dogs with jumper cables, drowned dogs and puppies, hung them from trees and more. He did these things himself. Not one of his “workers,” or someone under his command but he himself. He sounds like a bad 70′s B movie star reading lines he has no opinion about whatsoever as he declares that he wasn’t a good “team leader” before, he wasn’t setting a “good example,” and he spent all that time away from the field. Not one word about the pain or death he inflicted on defenseless living creatures who are weak, injured and tortured.
You can’t forgive someone when they aren’t sorry.
Michael Vick has done nothing to show any change of heart on his behalf. No change of emotion. No regret. No remorse. No sorrow. No sign that he understands what he did at all. I know I’m not watching any Eagles football games this year.
Google some pictures of the Michael Vick’s dogs, look at the pain and suffering he inflicted. Feel angry. You should be angry about it.
Sleepy Pod – My New Favorite Thing
August 16th, 2009
I am loving my new Sleepypod! It’s really well made. Better than my Sherpa Bag for sure. My little dog is so comfortable in there, she just falls asleep and it works as a doggie car seat as well. Perfect for traveling and taking puppy on the go. You should really go to their website and check it out. Comes in all sorts of cool colors. Beautifully packaged. You’ll love it!
Faith The Wonder Dog
August 12th, 2009
You have to see Faith the two legged wonder dog that walks upright like a human. Check out this awesome video!
Click Here To See Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSB9aBMayxU
Faith was born deformed and the vet had suggested that her owners put her to sleep but they didn’t, and not only did Faith survive but she learned to walk by hopping around on her back two legs. So when life seems hard and you’re not sure you can deal with what’s going on, just think of our lovely little Faith, put one foot in front of the other, and keep on going!
One of our primary goals is to address the source of the pet over-population crisis through education.Click To Read More
