Stray Dog And Train: Shih Tzu SURVIVES Accidents In Utah

April 17th, 2010

A stray dog is recovering after getting run over by a freight train – twice. Fred Krause, who was operating the train, says there was no way to stop before it ran over the dog.  He spotted the same dog on the return trip and this time the pup got whacked by the train’s snowplow. Krause drove back to the site later and found the dog, which was still dazed and lying on the tracks.  Krause and his family are nursing the dog back to health and are calling him “The Little Guy.” For complete story click HERE.

Our Little Millie Has a Home Fit for a Queen!

April 17th, 2010

This sweet 4lb angel was rescued from the Baldwin Park shelter. It is a very common experience to come across an absolutely terrified little chihuahua at the shelter who wants nothing to do with anyone and just hides in the corner of the kennel shaking in fear. Sadly, many of these dogs are marked as “aggressive” and killed for no good reason. Fortunately for Millie, two wonderful volunteers had identified her as a dog in need of help and only minutes before she was to be taken to the back of the shelter to be euthanized, volunteers were able to intercept her and bring her to an off site adoption event. Millie never returned to the shelter. She was rescued from the event and after only a few weeks in foster care, she was adopted by Cori. Millie truly hit the jackpot with Cori. As evidenced by the photo above, Millie (now Lexi) shares a home with a sister apple-head chihuahua and they share this new lavish life together. Millie, and all other shelter dogs, deserve a good life and we hope there are many more Cori’s out there in the world who will open their hearts and homes to these wonderful homeless companions. Enjoy the good life Lexi

Chachi is Living the Life in Santa Barbara!

April 17th, 2010

Poor little Chachi was a forgotten soul at the Baldwin Park shelter. His previous owners had decided that it was appropriate to dump their 10 year old dog at the shelter because “they no longer had time” for him. It’s amazing that people are allowed to get away with this ultimate betrayal of a living creature at its greatest time of need. Fortunately for Chachi there was an angel waiting in Santa Barbara. A wonderful lady saw Chachi’s plea and drove down from Santa Barbara to Baldwin Park to adopt him. Look at Chachi now!!! he is loved by a wonderful family and we hope he quickly forgets the sad and empty people who left him at the shelter to die. Enjoy your golden years Chachi!

Too Ugly To Be Adopted – Can’t We Find Her A Home???????

April 13th, 2010

Scarlett, a purebred boxer girl who was 3 years old, was rescued by Take Me Home from the Camarillo shelter on May 6, 2010.

She had been suffering from demodectic mange her entire life.

She was almost completely hairless and underweight.  Scarlett’s skin was tough and crusty, covered in sores, callouses, and total, utter filth.  She looked as if she had been burned, but it was just years of neglect.

Her mange was never treated and she had a slight heart murmur that had never been diagnosed or treated.  Scarlett had open wounds on each ankle that were leaking fluid, she was a complete mess.  Immediately after being rescued, her heart murmur was diagnosed, and easily treated by a simple pill twice a day, and she began treatment for her mange.

Immediately, Scarlett’s life turned around.

Her hair began to grow back, she no longer collapsed from her heart condition and she knew compassion and love.  TMH went the extra mile for Scarlett and enrolled her into a training program so that she could become a model canine citizen.

Scarlett is good with other dogs and has shared her home with multiple other dogs without issue, no cats.  Scarlett loves children and humans, she craves human attention and affection.

But still, no one has come for Scarlett.  Scarlett he is wondering why others are finding their forever homes, and she still sits and patiently waits. Scarlett has not given up, and neither has the dedicated team at Take Me Home.  TMH has spared no expense in providing Scarlett with everything she needs to succeed in life, but money cannot buy a forever family.

Safari World, a theme park in Thailand, has been slammed by animal lovers for its latest tourist attraction- orangutan kick boxing matches. Safari Worldhas been drawing huge crowds that cheer orangutans forced to wear boxing gloves and trained to trade punches and spin kicks. As the heavyweights of the jungle duke it out, female orangutans parade around in bikinis displaying the round number. Debbie Leahy, director of captive animals for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said: “When you see these animals performing what are completely unnatural tricks…they’re not doing it because they want to, they’re doing it because they’re afraid not to.”  For complete story click HERE.

Louisiana Could Create Trade-in Program for Illegal Animals

April 13th, 2010

Because state law generally prohibits you from having such animals as monkeys, large exotic cats and pythons, when owners of these illegal and exotic animals no longer want their “pet” they often get abandoned in the wild. It has become a major challenge for the Wildlife and Fisheries department.   In an effort to curb the abandonment of unwanted illegal animals, the Wildlife and Fisheries department of Louisiana is urging Legislature to pass a law that would allow people in possession of illegal animals to turn them over to the state without facing penalties.
