Ban Bullfighting In Barcelona? Is That Possible?
July 28th, 2010
A Spain without bullfighting? That could be a very real possibility. The regional parliament of Catalonia will vote on Wednesday whether to ban the fights or not.
If this thing is approved Catalonia would be the first region in Spain to outlaw bullfighting and the rest of the country is none too pleased. The Spanish love their bullfights and don’t want to see the “fights” taken away from them.
But there’s a big animal rights movement that is trying to get the brutal sport outlawed… and that movement is growing. Animal rights activists show up at bullfights and protest. They got over 180,000 people to sign a petition to ban bullfighting.
Spanish TV stations have started to drop bullfighting from the schedule because it’s too horrible for young children to see.
Let’s all just keep our finger’s crossed for Wednesday.

Dogs & Cats Have a Voice Under New Massachusetts Law
July 25th, 2010
On Wednesday Massachusetts will become the first U.S. state to ban the “debarking” surgery that devocalizes dogs and cats. Under the new law, anyone in the state who cuts or removes an animal’s vocal chords for nonmedical reasons may be punished by fines and up to five years in prison. The silencing surgery may suit the needs of the owner, but not the health and welfare of the animal. Supporters of the new measure say it is more important for pet owners to understand the needs and motivations behind their pets’ making noise. For complete story click HERE.

Our Diesel Made it!
July 16th, 2010
Diesel was 10 hours away from being killed at the shelter. Fortunately, we came across this gem of a dog and new that his life had to be saved. Diesel was rescued by AAA and after spending a couple of weeks at the vet and at cage free boarding, we are beyond thrilled to report that he has found his forever home. The following is a short paragraph from Diesel’s new family:
“We LOVE Diesel! who we think we’ve now named Dutch
He seems really happy, and is getting really comfortable with us. He gets excited and wags his tail when he sees us, and follows Alex and I individually around wherever we go in the house. He LOVES his new huge round squishy bed, we bought at Bark n’ Bitches… I lay in it with him and snuggle all the time. He’s so sweet. I’ll send you photos soon. We also go on 3 long walks everyday after he eats, and when I lag behind at all, he stops looks back, and waits until I catch up and starts to walk again. He wants his whole pack together
He’s a great dog and extremely intelligent, and a gentle soul. We love him so much

New Laws Take Animal Rights Movement to the Mainstream
July 14th, 2010
It was not long ago that ‘animal right’s was all but an oxymoron. With few exceptions, you could do what you wanted to an animal and it seemed bizarre to argue otherwise. In the U.S., animal rights have moved further into the mainstream. Animal-law courses are now taught at many of the nation’s leading law schools. Enthusiasm for animal rights is fueling a national movement to rein in the chaining of dogs. And the latest local example is that, starting in 2015, every egg sold in California will have to comply with strict hen-rights rules. For complete story click HERE.
