Labrador Who Ate an Entire Beehive Wins Award for Oddest insurance Claim

August 29th, 2010

A 1 year-old Labrador retriever named Ellie has been crowned the winner of VPI Pet Insurance’s Hambone Award for oddest insurance claim.  After all, she did eat an entire beehive — a fact her owners only discovered when she began vomiting bees by the hundreds.  Ellie beat out 11 other animal accident victims — all of whom survived their ordeals — including a border collie who chased a mailman right through a closed window and a standard poodle who ate two plastic baby bottles and a (used) diaper.  For complete story, click HERE

Pitbull Victim Attends his Abuser's Parole Hearing

August 29th, 2010

A scarred but friendly pit bull named Louis Vuitton was the star witness Tuesday as an Alabama state board denied parole for the man convicted of spraying him with lighter fluid, setting him on fire and beating him with a shovel.  After the 8-year-old dog was led into the packed hearing room, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles voted 3 to 0 to deny early release to 23-year-old Juan Daniels of Montgomery, who was sentenced in 2009 to nine years and six months in prison, a record in Alabama in an animal cruelty case.  For complete story, click HERE

Give Mochi a Chance and be Rewarded with Love!

August 23rd, 2010

Mochi

Meet Mochi, a 2-yr-old, 45 lb. wigglebutt who practically convulses with joy when hanging out with her human companions!  Unfortunately for Mochi, she was the victim of a backyard ear cropping job and has strangely shaped ears to show for it.  She’s a resilient girl, however, and doesn’t hold a grudge against people – in fact, all she wants to do is spend time with humans and play with other bigger and active dogs, just watch the video below to see her interaction with other bigger dogs.  Because she was never socialized properly, Mochi should not be with smaller dogs.  Mochi is clean, quiet and obedient.  Mochi is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Please give her a chance to finally have an owner that cares for her in the way she deserves!  If you are interested in meeting Mochi, please contact leeg@animaladvocatesalliance.org

Brooks is True Beauty!

August 22nd, 2010

Brooks is a stunningly handsome 50 pound, 2-3 year old red pit bull with beautiful light green eyes! A Good Samaritan saw this emaciated boy being dumped in an alley in Compton and contacted AAA for assistance. Now Brooks is healthy, full of life and would make an incredible running partner for an active individual or family. Although he walks and plays with certain other dogs, he is dog selective and will need continued socialization with other dogs. Therefore, he should probably start out as the only dog in his adoptive home. While Brooks is in need of a forever home, we would also be thrilled to find him a foster home where he can benefit from the love and consistency that a secure and safe environment can provide (AAA will provide food, vet care, supplies and, if necessary, a small stipend). Brooks is exuberant, loving, and energetic and will make a fantastic forever companion!

From the Shelter to Fame for Spencer!

August 22nd, 2010

It is so wonderful to get updates on dogs adopted from our adoption events or through our efforts. We received an incredible email from a couple who adopted Kontiki (now Spencer) a year ago. It’s wonderful to see people who dedicate themselves to their new family member and experience the transformation of a shelter dog into a loving and appreciative family member. We hope you enjoy their words below and Spencer’s pictures as much as we did. Have a great life Spencer.

“We adopted a small white haired bischon mix named Kontiki who we lovingly renamed Spencer just under a year ago. First of all, we both want to say thank you to everyone at the Animal Advocates Alliance. Spencer has been a wonderful addition to our family and we can honestly say we can’t image our lives without him.

Since we adopted Spencer, he has gone through quite a remarkable transformation. Not only did he get a style makeover but all his anxieties with people and other dogs have almost disappeared. He is now excited when people come over, greeting them at the door and a social butterfly at the dog park. He is also quite the little dog model. We recently posted our coffee table for sale on craiglist with Spencer in the photo. To our surprise Apartment Therapy during their Los Angeles scavenger hunt picked up the ad and featured it on their website directly calling out to our adorable pup. We wanted to share this news with you and extend our gratitude for providing us with the sweetest, cutest, most wonderful dog ever.”
