Poop Keeps the Light On at Boston Park

September 16th, 2010

Matthew Mazzotta of Boston, MA had a brilliant idea to turn dog waste into energy.  In countries like India, communities make fuel out of animal waste. So, Mazzotta thought, why not use a do the same at the dog park? Mazzotta applied for a grant of $4,000 and rounded up a group of scientists, designers and local residents to help with his Park Spark Project.  The poop digester prototype currently sits inside a dog run in Cambridge, Mass., and the methane energy helps light a lamp. Mazzotta’s ultimate goal is to show what can be done with the energy, and he hopes to provide other communities with kits to make their own dog poop digested.

Police Fatally Shoot Dog at Adams Morgan festival in DC

September 16th, 2010

A D.C. police officer shot and killed a dog amid hundreds of onlookers on Sunday afternoon at the annual Adams Morgan Day festival. When two dogs started snapping at each other in the middle of a crowd, police officers got involved and at some point one of them shot and killed the larger dog.  While the police department says the shooting was justifiable the person caring for the dog said he had already broken up the dog squabble and was subduing his dog when the police officer came over and killed him.  Parrot was a 2 year old shar-pei/Pit mix who was living in a foster home while up for adoption with a local animal rescue organization. Aaron Block, the dogs foster father, said “The officer drew his gun in an unnecessary act of cowboy gunslinging law enforcement and shot my dog amidst a crowd of thousands.”  He also said that he would walk with Parrot to and from work every day and that he was a “very people-friendly dog, with absolutely no bite history.”

Pregnant Cow is Shot at California State Fair

September 8th, 2010

At the recent California State Fair, a very pregnant cow panicked, broke free and ran through the fairgrounds.  Officials said they tried to tranquilize her and couldn’t so they shot her dead- four times in the head, three times in the body.  The cow was part of a “live birth exhibit” where people can go to witness the “miracle of birth.”  Taking an animal out of its familiar environment and putting it on display for an audience can really spook the animal.  If you want kids to know about animal and farm life, take them to a farm. Cat Shot 30 Times and thrown into Tampa Bay!

September 8th, 2010

Earlier this week in Tampa Florida a passerby heard strange noises coming from the McKay Bay.   She pulled from the water a cat carrier and discovered inside a badly wounded cat.  She took the cat to an all-night veterinary clinic where x-rays showed that she had been shot nearly 30 times with a pellet gun!  The cat, who has since been named Lovey, is doing well now and will soon be up for adoption.  The carrier that the cat was found in was crudely labeled with the words “Kitty Penitentiary, Cell 666 Est. 2010, Jailer Missy and Inmate Mittens.”  Animal Control suspects that juveniles are responsible for shooting the cat and throwing her into the water to die.  This is very worrisome because children who commit acts of animal cruelty will very likely grow up to commit crimes against humans. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the community are offering a reward of $2,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the responsible parties.  For complete story, click HERE

Puppy Throwing Girl Inspires Outrage

September 2nd, 2010

This story isn’t suitable for work, or breakfast, or anyone in general but it happened.

A girl video taped herself throwing a litter of puppies into a river.

WARNING: IF YOU ARE EASILY UPSET OR CAN’T WATCH GRAPHIC ANIMAL ABUSE DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO. I’M FRIGGIN’ SERIOUS, IT’S HORRIBLE AND I MEAN HORRIBLE.

This is a fu*king outrage and if you have a heart at all it’s almost impossible to watch as the whimpering puppies wiggle and squeak just before being over-hand tossed into a flowing river to their deaths.

Some high tech internet hackers immediately got on the case. Tracking this girl and her video taping friend down via Facebook and Youtube so that they could give the world her, home address, and phone number and any other information they might be able to come up with.

Police are also investigating and there’s a $2000 reward being offered via PETA. (And I don’t mean to be negative at a time like this but really PETA? One of the worst cases of animal cruelty I’ve ever seen and all you can come up with is $2k? With all your famous members? Seems a little light in my opinion.)

So, like I said the group of elite hackers known as 4chan immediately got on the case…

“We can determine from the picture so few things. One, based on assumption, she probably has a facebook account, no matter what country they’re in. Two, she is 5ft 6in-5ft 8in, blond, eye color unknown, Caucasian. She has something written upside-down on her red sweater, barely legible, might be of assistance if it’s the product of a local store. Let’s work together on exposing this sicko! Use the comments.”

It didn’t take long for 4chan to find the girl’s name and information and give it out to everyone on the internet…

Soon fafter Katja released a video apologizing but the video has since been removed from YouTube.
