The Story Of A Dog Called Faith – The Two Legged Dog

September 8th, 2011 by C.J.

This little pup was born with two hind legs. No front legs. Some people wanted to put her to sleep, they thought her life would be too hard and she’d have no quality to it. The only way she could get around was to drag her body on the floor, even her own mother tried to smother her – but with a little love and a little peanut butter she learned to walk on two legs.

Give Shelter Animals a Second Chance: Volunteer Today

August 21st, 2011 by Allyson

Do you love animals? Then volunteering at your local shelter is a perfect opportunity to help animals in need. Animal shelters are always in need for a wide variety of volunteer services and depend on volunteers to ensure maximum care for their rescue animals. Even if you donate an hour a week, you are providing tremendous help.

When you decide to volunteer at an animal shelter, first decide how you would like to contribute. Are you more of a hands on person? You would be an ideal prospective dog walker, or animal care taker. Shelters need individuals to spend time playing, training, and socializing animals to brighten their day and prepare them for adoption.

Do you prefer to be behind the desk? You have the option of being an in-shelter or online volunteer. In-shelter volunteers are in charge of answering phone calls, and keeping up with pet adoption files. Online volunteers assignments range from online awareness, fundraising and blogging.

Regardless of which way you choose to contribute to an animal shelter, you are changing the lives of the animals that you are serving! Whether it is a half hour a week, or a few minutes behind you own computer, you can guarantee that you are giving shelter animals a second chance to better life and good home. Be a volunteer today and change the lives of these precious pets!

Be sure to visit our adoption page and view or up-to-date list of adoptable pets!

Jimmy Kimmel’s Prank on LA Lakers Ron Artest With Fake Animal Rescue PSA

August 18th, 2011 by C.J.

This is just hilarious. Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers has such a big heart when it comes to charity that he agreed to do this PSA for an animal rescue organization called “Critters United.” It’s a totally fake organization made up by the Jimmy Kimmel staff to prank Ron, but it’s so funny to watch him try to deal with the situation. You’ve got to see this.

The Power of Adoption!

August 16th, 2011 by Allyson

When you make the decision to adopt from a shelter, you don’t just earn a friend, but you save the lives of countless animals.  According to the Humane Society, 6 to 8 million animals enter into shelters every year, and 3 to 4 million of them will be euthanized.  So how exactly will your pet adoption benefit other animal’s lives? Simple. Choosing to adopt an animal from a shelter instead of a breeder can help create a pathway towards decreasing the large amount of animals in shelters.

The problem with purchasing animals from breeders is that breeders contribute to the extremely large domestic animal population today.  A breeder may end up breeding thousands of animals to be sold for profit.  Many breeders do not have protocol to insure their animals end up in fitted homes, which often results in a variety of problems. Unlike shelters, breeders will not give you time to bond with your chosen pet before purchase, nor will they provide any detailed personality records of the animal. When you end up with an animal that may not suit your lifestyle, many questions arise.  What if you cannot afford to keep your pet?  What if your new pet doesn’t get along with other household pets? What if you decide the animal isn’t for you?  These questions and hypothetical situations arise everyday for pet owners, and the results are countless animals being abandoned, becoming strays or being directly put into shelters by their owners.

There is no need to breed more animals at this point in time because there are so many animals waiting to be adopted in shelters!  Most of animals in shelters came from breeders to begin with, so there is an even more direct connection between breeders and the huge shelter animal population.  If more people chose to adopt from shelters, animals lives will be spared and the breeding business will suffer.  When breeding businesses suffer, less animals will be bred to be sold for profit.  Therefore, less animals will end up in shelters in the long run. It is simply a chain of events, and one person can truly make a difference.

Animals in shelters are the very same animals that you would buy from breeders.  They all have different personalities, and all deserve to have a great home.  Remember to adopt instead of buying from breeders. It may seem as though you are saving only your chosen pets life, but your adoption does so much more!

Thinking about adopting?  You have made a great decision by choosing to give an animal a second chance! Be sure to visit our adoption page and browse through the list of animals waiting for a new home!

Facebook Letting People Sell Live Animals On Their Site! Once Upon A Teapup = Backyard Breeders

August 11th, 2011 by C.J.

On Facebook this morning I noticed this ad in the corner of my page for a backyard dog breeder called Once Upon A TeaPup. I clicked the link to look at their page and saw some disturbingly small dogs with bulging eyes.

To be honest some of these look enhanced or Photoshopped, even though they claim that their images are not Photoshopped (which they break up into two words because they didn’t bother to Google “Photoshop” to see that it’s just one word and even more horrifying that they are not Photoshopped.)

The site is extremely disturbing to any true dog or animal lover. Small dogs being treated as objects. Like a purse or a pair of shoes. These are living creatures, not jewelry.

They specialize in “micro puppies” and I’m sorry but this site is just disgusting and horrifying to me.

These people are sick. Breeding dogs as accoutrement is disgusting. They even provide a “health guarantee” because I’m guessing that many dogs that have been bred this small are not healthy. I wonder how many puppies in each litter are actually healthy enough to sell? I wonder what they do with the ones that are not healthy? Have any of their clients bothered to ask what happens to the micro puppies that they can’t sell for a profit? The ones that might have issues? Do they really think that these backyard breeders spend their own money to get the sick pups the treatment that they need and find loving adopting homes for the ones that aren’t up to standards to be sold? Think about it people!

You might want to go to their website and facebook pages and check it out to see for yourself and let them know what you think.

Website: http://www.onceuponateapup.com

Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Once-Upon-A-TeaPup/202648533083245

You also might want to let Facebook know how you feel about them letting backyard breeders advertise on their website. Here are some email addresses you can use info@facebook.com and advertising@facebook.com – you will get an automated response and just reply to it letting them know that your question was not answered by the automated response. Why is Facebook allowing people to sell living creatures on their website? Has Facebook bothered to look into what happens to the puppies who are not healthy enough for sale?

And for the people at Once Upon A Teapup – don’t fool yourselves. You can claim that you are not backyard breeders all you want on your website… but it don’t make it so.

A Note To Backyard Breeders And People Who Buy From Backyard Breeders From Someone Who Helps Rescue The Dogs You Create
