You’ll remember this blog post about my foster dog Grady, well I just wanted to let you all know that Grady has found his family and is now living a stylish bachelor lifestyle in the West Hollywood area. So when you’re driving by the Silent Movie Theater give a big shout out your window to Grady… he might actually be able to hear you.
***********
Dogs like Grady are overlooked at shelters every day. People are afraid of them. Grady had lived at the East Valley Shelter for months and months… everyone judged him based on his looks and even though he was a favorite among the shelter workers who described him as “the happiest dog” they had ever seen, nobody was willing to give him a chance.
Grady is an American Bulldog mix. He had Entropian a condition of the eye that caused him a great deal of pain! He could barely open his eye. Also, many of his teeth were broken from neglect… it seems that he was probably left in a yard with little human contact, food and no toys… and just chewed on rocks and sticks to pass the time until his teeth were broken and chipped… exposed nerve endings caused him so much pain that he could barely eat. A dog who looks like this, with medical issues is so rarely adopted… their stories so rarely have a happy ending… but luckily we were able to save Grady just before he was to be put down. We got him the medical treatment that he needed. His eye is all fixed, his teeth have been filed and a few were removed. He’s happy and healthy now and ready for his forever home!
Look at that handsome face.
I don’t think Grady had ever been inside a house or apartment before. When I brought him home from the shelter he seemed to be amazed at everything… the TV, the cellphone ringing, the microwave oven… He had no idea how to walk up stairs, I literally had to carry him but after a few days he learned how to walk up and down stairs. The elevator freaked him out, he would spread his legs out like Bambi on ice and shake uncontrollably but now he rides in an elevator like a pro which is convenient for me because I live on the 3rd floor. He has learned so much in such a short time.
He’s a truly amazing dog! He was potty trained in about 4 days, walks like a pro on a leash, doesn’t chew anything other than his toys and bones, no separation anxiety, in fact I’ve only heard him bark twice in the last 2 months. I say “go to bed Grady” and he walks right into his kennel and goes right to sleep when it’s bed time.
He sleeps in his crate every night, though I’m sure he’d love to sleep in your bed with you…
He’s a quiet guy. He’s really mellow, he’s always excited when he goes to a new house or something, but after a little bit he calms down and lays at your feet. With me he really just lays around all day long like an old bear rug. Loves to go for walks because he is after all a dog. Loves having a stuffed animal to chew on and lay around with, loves treats and bones and his soft warm blanket… all the usual dog stuff.
Perfect for an apartment or house. Great with kids and other dogs, so gentle with small dogs and children. Loves to play with other dogs. Would be a great companion for someone with a female dog. Grady truly loves the ladies. He loves female dogs and female humans. He’d make a great pet for a couple, family or single gal.
One of the best foster dogs I’ve had. He’s about 70lbs. Loves to cuddle. He will curl up with you on the sofa all night.
The only thing about Grady is that he doesn’t like cats… I mean he likes them… but for dinner not as a friend. So NO CATS!
If you think you know someone who might be looking to adopt a dog like Grady please forward this link!
He’s just looking for that special someone to give him a chance… a human of his own to cuddle on the sofa with.
Grady is located in Los Angeles, Ca.

--It’s something that we just can’t avoid sometimes… You’re at the dog park, or out for a walk and it happens… Dog fight. Maybe it’s your dog, maybe it’s someone else’s dog… big dogs… little dogs. Just like us people, sometimes dog’s just don’t hit it off. A dog fight! Would you know what to do?
I recently spent some time with Melanie Monteiro, who has written the The Safe Dog Handbook for an article I’m working on for AOL’s PawNation and I realized that even I, an experienced dog owner and animal rescue worker — had absolutely no game plan for if a dogfight breaks out.
I got so many cool tips from Melanie that I had to write an article about it for PawNation. The wrong time to think about how to handle a dog fight is when one has broken out. You need to have a plan before it ever happens. Dogs are like motorcycles… it’s not a matter of if… it’s a matter of when the next “accident” will happen… so be prepared for this and other “accidents” by doing your research as a dog owner. Do you have a pet first aid kit? Do you have back up food and water for pets when the next big quake hits? You do realize that we WILL have an earthquake in California at some point in the future… The Northridge quake wasn’t a freak accident. We live on an active plate. You get the point. Do some homework!
My dog fight article should be out soon… I’ll let you know on Facebook when it comes out!
--I’m sorry, I read about this the other day and immediately went into denial about it. My mind couldn’t even process the cruelty involved in this act. I saw the story again today and thought I’d write about it, even thought I don’t even want to think about it… this kind of stuff happens every day, and dogs like Patrick are exactly why the Animal Advocates Alliance and many other animal rescue groups spend all their time and money doing what they do.
Patrick, the New Jersey pit bull found starving and barely alive at the bottom of an apartment building garbage shoot is being called by animal care workers one of the worst cases of cruelty they’ve ever seen.
AND I WARN YOU, DON’T SCROLL DOWN UNLESS YOU CAN HANDLE IT. IT’S EXTREMELY UPSETTING.
He is nothing but skin and bone.
Maintenance workers pulling garbage out of a chute and into a COMPACTOR at a Newark apartment complex found the dog March 16 when they noticed one of the bags moving.
The pit bull mix, believed to be 1 to 2 years old, was transported to the 24-hour Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., where staff pumped him with fluids and covered him with heating blankets.
The New Jersey ASPCA, meanwhile, is investigating the crime and searching for suspects in the case. A $2,000 reward has been offered for any information on the crime.
“There are definitely some leads,” said Karen Powell, an AHS spokeswoman, “We’re going to get this person.”
You can follow Patrick’s story here: http://www.ahscares.org/showarchive.asp?id=772
Please VOLUNTEER an animal shelter or rescue near you.
--I’ve been hearing about Judgment Day or End Of Times pet services. Seems that a lot of Christians believe that the rapture will happen in May of this year and they will all be sucked up to heaven… but in the Christian world, animals don’t go to heaven… so some animal loving non-believers are coming forward to take care of your pets after you are swept up into heaven by the good Lord.
Yes, for about $110 you can sign up for Judgment Day Pet Services and a damned soul will rush to your home after the rapture happens and care for all of your pets because nothing spoils heaven like guilt complex knowing that you’ve been gone more than 6 hours and someone needs a walk bad!

Services like Eternal Earth-Bound Pets says, “We are a group of dedicated animal lovers, and atheists. Each Eternal Earth-Bound Pet representative is a confirmed atheist, and as such will still be here on Earth after you’ve received your reward. Our network of animal activists are committed to step in when you step up to Jesus.” And claims to operate in 24 states.
What do you think about this service? Is this just a total scam? Do you really believe that Rapture is happening in May? Have you signed up for this service? Would you? I need to know! Please leave me a comment!
