Running A Marathon For A Misunderstood Breed

March 14th, 2011 by C.J.

Next Sunday — March 20th 2011 — Zoe Gilman is running the LA MARATHON for the most misunderstood breed of dog on the planet — The beloved Nanny Dog aka Pit Bulls.

He is hoping to raise $10,000 for LUV A BULL PIT BULL RESCUE in Eugene, Oregon for medical funds for all the dogs she takes in from LA and all over that have been abandoned, abused or neglected.

Meet the man, the myth, the legend… Zoe!

Zoe is an avid runner and this will be his 2nd Marathon after running the Vancouver Marathon in 2003.  He has done numerous half Marathons and his goal is to finish the LA Marathon in less than 4 hours (although he will be happy to just finish!)
He saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer with Liesl and LUV A BULL (http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/dog-whisperer/3733/Overview#tab-Videos/06262_00) and thought her rescue organization up in Oregon was fantastic and wants to help raise money for them by doing this race.
He loves all animals but is very aware how many Pit Bulls are in the LA Shelters.
He grew up in Oakland, California and went to college at UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Business Management/Economics and is now preparing to apply to vet school.
He feels that fostering is a great way to volunteer and help rehabilitate disadvantaged dogs.
Zoe lives with his girlfriend Mariel, his two cats Jerry and Mia, and a foster dog, A Pit Bull Mix called WINSTON

Last Minutes with ODEN [VIDEO]

March 7th, 2011 by C.J.

This video of Jason Wood’s goodbye to his best furry friend Oden is for anyone who’s ever loved (and lost) a pet. It’s beautifully shot and pretty much impossible to watch and come out on the other side with dry eyes.

Kittens Rescued From Inside The Walls Of A Florida Home [VIDEO]

March 7th, 2011 by C.J.

Two stray kittens were pulled from the wall of Joy Seward’s Florida home over the weekend. She heard the meowing and realized the noise wasn’t coming from outside… it was inside her home… inside the walls.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue used cameras and a stethoscope to locate the trapped kittens and then punched holes in the wall to reach in and grab the little cats.

The homeowner, Joy Seward, said, “It’s worth it to get them out. Hate to think about them staying up there and dying.”

Seward hopes to find the stray pair a good home.

Euthanized Puppy Comes Back To Life After Being Discarded In A Dumpster

March 4th, 2011 by C.J.

Oklahoma animal shelter officials are deluged with adoption requests for a puppy that was EUTHANIZED and disposed of in a Dumpster but then CAME BACK TO LIFE!

Officials say Wall-E and five other sick puppies were left outside an Oklahoma animal shelter last week.

Due to crowding and the dogs’ conditions, the vet euthanized the dogs and disposed of them in a Dumpster, but the next day an animal control officer found Wall-E walking around and looking for something to eat.

People from all over the country have contacted the shelter in hopes of giving the 3-month-old pup a new home.

Get Your Dog A Dogbrella!

March 2nd, 2011 by C.J.

It’s almost impossible to get your dog to walk under the umbrella with you, but now that’s not an issue because your dog can have his or her own umbrella!

It’s real and I’ll bet that it works.

Dog Gets Prosthetic Paw

January 28th, 2011 by C.J.

The Swift family was celebrating the holidays with friends, when one accidentally ran over their dog Polo in the driveway. Everyone was upset. After a trip to the vet the options were limited, costly surgery that may or may not work, or something new… a prosthetic paw.

Prosthetic paws are relatively inexpensive, running about $900. Saving the family lots of money and saving their dog Polo painful surgeries that might not even help.

Merry Christmas!

December 24th, 2010 by C.J.

Photobucket

Hello everyone, I am the blogger here for the Animal Advocates Alliance and I just wanted to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, Happy Kwanza, and mostly happy Doggy Day, which is every day in my house.

I have a foster dog in my apartment. I have no business taking on a foster. I’m broke, I’m going to Japan, he’s too big, he hates my cats, I have to divide my house into two sections. He’s pissing on my Christmas tree, but it IS a tree (a real one), so I can’t blamer him. We’re all wet. We walk 4 – 6 times a day while we’re potty training the foster… which means we’re constantly getting rained on and then spending the rest of the day trying to dry, but we never really get dry before we have to walk again. I’m going to Japan for 2 weeks right after Christmas. I’m really stressed out that my animals will be taken care of properly while I’m gone, I always stress about it… nobody can do it as well as I can (in my opinion) so travel is always really stressful. I worry about accidents, and someone breaking free from their leash, fights with dogs on the streets, cars, poison, cats and dogs getting along. There’s a lot of worry involved in a family of this size (2 dogs, 1 foster dog, 2 cats in one apartment in Valley Village) This is my world… and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Does any of this sound familiar? What does Doggy Day mean to you? What’s your average Doggy Day like?

This is my foster dog, Grady. He needs a home… if you know anybody let me know. He’s making my Doggy Days bright.
