Rocky was a dejected soul when AAA volunteers found him moping in his kennel at the Baldwin Park shelter, suffering from a broken pelvis. His owner was unable to pay the fees required to bail him out of the shelter, let alone the medical costs he would incur to recover from his injury. Knowing that this fantastic boy would be imminently euthanized, AAA rescued him and Rocky received the necessary medical care for his pelvis to heal properly. After many weeks of cage rest Rocky went to a foster home where he lived happily with dogs of all sizes and received tons of TLC from his foster mom, who changed his name to “Chauncy” but affectionately referred to him as “Cowpig”! In addition to making new canine friends, Chauncy met the girl of his dreams. Scarlet, another Baldwin Park dog who was rescued on the day she was to be euthanized, arrived at the same foster home a couple of weeks after Chauncy and the two fell instantly in love! They became inseparable and AAA committed to do their best to find them a home together. Fortunately, a wonderful couple decided that they wanted to adopt this bonded pair, and the rest is history! AAA rescued “Pinkie” (now “Agnes”), a blind senior chihuahua about 2 years ago from the Baldwin Park shelter, where she had been dumped by her family for being “too old.” Now 15 years old, Agnes has proven her prior family entirely wrong! After spending 3 months in a foster home, where she was re-named “Alice” but fondly referred to as “Blindey,” Agnes was adopted by 2 angels, Lara Gertzen and her partner, Velvet, who quickly discovered that Agnes was not only blind, but diabetic! That didn’t stop her new moms from rising to the challenge of caring for an extra special needs girl. Two years after being rescued, Agnes is on daily insulin shots and thriving! She lives with a rescued min pin, with whom she likes to share a bed, and enjoys sunbathing and playing the slots.

Little Man aka Patch was discovered by one of our volunteers in the back of the shelters medical unit – nobody even knew he was there. The volunteer was actually there to rescue another dog that was also in medical when she came across Little Man in his cage. She was struck by the fact that he was so cheerful and loving despite the fact that his leg had been broken in two places and had been healing incorrectly for 10 days. His ‘safety’ time was up the next day and AAA knew he had little to no chance of making it out alive without some special help. Generous donations were made by the Heigl foundation, United Hope for Animals and private parties and he had surgery to repair his leg using a titanium plate. Little Man healed quickly from this surgery and his luck continued when he found his forever home with a wonderful family who saw his story online and fell in love. He now lives the life that most dogs dream of and will be a cherished member of his new family. Thank you to all who helped save this special guy!

Percy was rescued when he was only a few days old along with his siblings and parents from a muddy pit at the home of a backyard breeder, where they were being severely mistreated. After many weeks in a foster home, where his sweet mama, Laney, nursed her babies, Percy was healthy and ready for adoption! His lucky new parents, Joe and Lisa, have since renamed him Sailor and say this about their new bundle of joy: “He is such a great dog – we love him so much. He loves his home – and I think he will love his new home even more when we move in two weeks. Here are a few photos of Sailor and a cute video of his first bath.”

I am writing to report on Georgina now known as “Cali.” I met this angel on a recent trip to Las Vegas. I drove a few hours to Barstow California and met a friend from Animal Advocates Alliance who brought Georgina. This beautiful girl instantly stole my heart. Returning back home I arranged for her to be flown across the country to Maine. She has been here about a week now and is still trying to figure out what snow is! She is an absolute love bug and likes to curl up on the couch with me anytime she gets a chance. She gives constant love and is always looking for a belly rub. Her love of toys has already created some belly laugh moments with how goofy she acts. We have already been to our first obedience training class and she did amazing. She even showed her classmates how she likes to lay on her back with all her paws in the air for an extended time. She loves to go on several walks a day and has recently become friends with the mailman. She has met a cat and several dogs since she arrived and loves them all. She seems so happy to have a forever home and is truly a fantastic dog.

We rescued sweet Dickens as Maurice from a high kill shelter and for months he was a sublime but sadly overlooked perfect poodle companion then one day as all fairy tales go his dream came true. Maurice now Dickens was adopted by a wonderful family that has integrated this wonderful fellow in to not only a member of their family but the member of a community. Dickens’s is now an avid member of a theatre company and frequents parties and hob-knob’s with an elite intellectual crowd!

“Dickens is the new star at our house in Santa Clarita. He enjoys the company of  actor/theatre director and also his chauffeur, actress Beth, film guy Will and Louise, his chief of staff.  His entourage also includes vet, dr gardener,  the groomers at Chris’ K9 Clippery and pet-sitters Caroline and Heidi!”

Our little Dicken’s is a true story of Christmas giving and love. We love you Dicken’s – have the best life ever!!

It is so wonderful to get updates on dogs adopted from our adoption events or through our efforts. We received an incredible email from a couple who adopted Kontiki (now Spencer) a year ago. It’s wonderful to see people who dedicate themselves to their new family member and experience the transformation of a shelter dog into a loving and appreciative family member. “We adopted a small white haired bischon mix named Kontiki who we lovingly renamed Spencer just under a year ago. First of all, we both want to say thank you to everyone at the Animal Advocates Alliance. Spencer has been a wonderful addition to our family and we can honestly say we can’t image our lives without him.

Since we adopted Spencer, he has gone through quite a remarkable transformation. Not only did he get a style makeover but all his anxieties with people and other dogs have almost disappeared. He is now excited when people come over, greeting them at the door and a social butterfly at the dog park. He is also quite the little dog model. We recently posted our coffee table for sale on craiglist with Spencer in the photo. To our surprise Apartment Therapy during their Los Angeles scavenger hunt picked up the ad and featured it on their website directly calling out to our adorable pup. We wanted to share this news with you and extend our gratitude for providing us with the sweetest, cutest, most wonderful dog ever.”
