• Name: Zulu
• Rescued From: Inglewood
• Journey: Zulu is one of too many dogs that spend their lives on a short chain with no socialization or even an occasional walk. Fortunately, Zulu’s owners recognized that Zulu deserved better and reached out to a neighbor in an effort to find him a new home. Zulu, who was only 9 months old, was relinquished to AAA, and taken immediately to a vet to be neutered and vaccinated. He was then placed in a wonderful foster home where he finally had room to play and socialize with several foster brothers and sisters, including his best friend, a large pit bull named Mookie. Several weeks later, Tom saw a picture of Zulu on Petfinder.com and fell in love. On Dec. 28, 2008, Tom surprised his fiancé, Monica, with Zulu and she fell in love, as well! Zulu, now Bruno, has an enormous yard and a family to adore him!
• Adoptive Family: Tom and fiancé Monica.
• Favorite Activity: Going to work with his dad, Tom.
Success Stories
One of the most gratifying aspects of our mission is to place an animal in a loving, permanent home. At Animal Advocates Alliance, we believe that all animals are entitled to food, shelter, veterinary care, and, most of all, a person or family to love and care for them. The following are heartwarming tales of animals who found their happy homes with AAA’s assistance.

Henry (Now Cosmo) Has a Cat Friend and a Good Life!
April 7th, 2009 by admin
Our sweet Henry (now Cosmo) has finally arrived! Poor Cosmo was rescued form the Baldwin Park shelter with a terribly broken front leg. He underwent surgery and after months of rehab in a foster home he found his forever home at an adoption event. Cosmo now enjoys walks, sleeping in bed with his parents, playing at the dog park, car rides and having a cat friend. Here’s the update we received from Cosmo’s new dad:
“Cosmo is doing very well! He settled in the very first night when he jumped in my bed and snuggled up right next to me
He’s been meeting some friends in the neighborhood and he’s now a regular at dog park. Even though we go into the small dog area, he always seem to have the most fun with bigger dogs. I’m also happy to say that he is now COMPLETELY fine with my cat, and my cat has begrudgingly accepted Cosmo’s presence. It’s very fun to see them competing for attention but I still gotta figure out a way to stop Cosmo from eating Tiger’s food!”
You deserve a great life Cosmo and your AAA family is very happy for you!

He is loved by all and yet another perfect representative of the Pit Bull breed. You can’t help but smile and want to give Newman a hug when you meet him – he hopes you get that chance.
Diamond is a Girl's Best Friend!
February 16th, 2009 by Lee
My name is Diamond and I am a 7-year old sweet soul who happens to be a pit bull. I was at the Baldwin Park animal shelter for over 3 months and I’m not sure why because as soon as you meet me, you’ll discover that I am a very gentle boy with a sweet spirit who just likes to be your best friend. So finally, after many months spent sleeping on the cold floor and abandoned by my old family, these great Animal Advocates Alliance volunteers came and took new pictures of me and sent my story to a lot of their friends. 6 days after my photo shoot, a very nice lady and her sweet daughter (my new best friend) came to the shelter and spent some time with me and in 10 minutes discovered what I knew all these years, I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO LOVE!!! (see photo above of me and my new human foster sister). Everyone says I am exceptionally handsome and loving! So now I finally have a warm bed and a nice family to call my foster parents (or maybe soon enough my own family). Me and my pit friends still don’t understand all the negative hype about us, we pits love our families (human and animal) very much and can make great family pets, some humans just decide to abuse us and then blame us for being scared and insecure (shame on them) so just give us a chance and you’ll see that we deserve happy homes. Thank you volunteers, thank you my new foster/adoptive family, thank you shelter staff for keeping me alive and thank you to all of you with an open mind and an open heart who give us a chance. Please go to the shelter and spend some time with my other friends that are still waiting for loving homes, they will make you happy!!!
Katy's Incredible Journey!
February 1st, 2009 by Lee
• Name: Katy
• Rescued From: South LA Animal Shelter
• Journey: Animal Advocates Alliance intercepted Katy at the South LA shelter just as her owner was dumping her. She had been losing weight and the hair was thinning on her hind quarters. Her owner couldn’t afford to take her to the vet, so she wanted the shelter to euthanize Katy!
She was taken out of the shelter and straight to the vet. Katy was diagnosed with an easily-treatable skin and ear infection. She was given antibiotics, and was soon on her way back to health. While she was recovering, her sweet and gentle personality began to show. Katy was calm and mellow, got along perfectly with other dogs and cats, loved people, and was patient with children.
After about four weeks of veterinary treatment, a family in La Mesa saw Katy’s picture on Petfinder.com and wanted to meet her. They had recently lost their beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, and really missed having a dog in the house. They took Katy in as a foster dog at first in order to make sure she got along with their two rescue cats and their six-week-old granddaughter. At the end of one week, the family had fallen in love with Katy and decided to adopt her. She now has a large backyard of her own, and for the first time in her life, has her very own dog bed and toys! She’s working on getting back to a healthy weight, and enjoys taking daily walks with her new guardians, Shelly and Gerrit. Her favorite treat: Shelly’s homemade liver brownies!
• Favorite Activity: Eating her favorite treat (Shelly’s homemade liver brownies!)
Brandie's Successful Rescue!

• Name: Brandie
• Rescued From: East Valley Animal Shelter
• Journey: Brandie, a 1.5 year-old female chihuahua waited and waited for a family to adopt her at the Moorpark mobile adoption. Although her forever family did not show up, a representative of Animal Advocates Alliance monitored her and stayed in touch with the shelter staff to make sure that Brandie would not be euthanized. Within a couple of days, AAA rescued her and placed her with a foster mom. Within one day of being placed in foster care, Brandie’s foster mom decided to adopt Brandie and provide her with her forever home.
• Adoptive Family: The Gharabegian Family
• Favorite Activity: Playing with her American hairless terrier sister, Paulie, sleeping in her queen size bed and eating gourmet rice, chicken and egg meals.
JJ's Long Road Home!
January 30th, 2009 by Lee
• Name: JJ
• Rescued From: East Valley Shelter
• Journey: JJ is just one of many “pit bulls” or “pit bull” mixes that get overlooked at the shelter despite their loving and docile temperaments. JJ, along with “pit bulls” Stella and Cleo, had one last opportunity to be adopted at a mobile adoption. In fact, the shelter made it clear that if they returned to the shelter that evening unadopted, they would be euthanized. Sadly, he was not adopted that day. Certain that someone would look past his breed and appreciate his perfect personality (in addition to his handsome looks), AAA rescued him (along with Stella and Cleo, who were also not adopted that day). After 4 weeks in a fantastic foster home, JJ’s day finally came when a great family came to an adoption event and saw how gentle JJ was with their young daughters, Emily (3.5 yrs) and Ava (1.5 yrs). JJ now lives in Santa Clarita and enjoys spending time in his big backyard and taking treats from Emily and Ava.
• Adoptive Family: The Fairbanks Family
• Favorite Activity: Walks. Lots of them!
Bella's Amazing Rescue and Adoption!
January 27th, 2009 by Lee
• Name: Bella
• Rescued From: East Valley Shelter
• Journey: Bella waited for a new home for over a month at the shelter, but it was clear that nobody wanted to take on the responsibility of correcting her hip/leg problem. Her time at the shelter had run out and she was scheduled to be euthanized. Animal Advocates Alliance pulled Bella in the nick of time and took her to the vet to determine the problem. Bella had severe arthritis in her left hip due to her femur rubbing against her pelvic bone, so she was not putting weight on her left hind leg. Bella had her long-awaited hip surgery and is doing amazingly! Shortly after her surgery Bella was adopted by a lovely couple who had donated towards her surgery and closely followed her progress. We are happy to report that she is putting weight on her hind leg and finally walking on all fours!
• Adoptive Family: The Brown Family
• Favorite Activity: Getting belly rubs and facial massages and showing off her limp free walk!

January 22nd, 2009 by Lee

• Name: Junior
• Rescued From: Baldwin Park Shelter
• Journey: Junior, a 1.5 year-old miniature pinscher waited and waited for a family to get him out of a County shelter. Although his forever family did not show up, a representative of Animal Advocates Alliance monitored him and stayed in touch with the shelter staff to make sure that Junior would not be euthanized. When his time came, AAA rescued him and took him to the vet, where he was treated for worms and had his dew claws removed. Junior recuperated at a foster home, where he got to frolic and play with his many foster brothers and sisters. He developed a special bond with his pit bull sister, Stella, who he followed everywhere. They were even caught spooning a few times! Once Junior was healthy, he was adopted by a family from Riverside, CA who loved his affectionate and playful personality. Being just a puppy, Max is full of energy, which he burns off by running with his new dad. His Chihuahua sister, Indy, is still a bit suspicious of him but he is slowly growing on her. Max, now “Jerry”, lives in Sherman Oaks
