Brody the dog was out in his back yard relieving himself, the safest place in the world right???? Wrong… he was attacked by a hawk in his own back yard. Everyone with a small dog has feared that something like this could happen to their dog.

“Brody’s dad heard a distressed canine cry and immediately sprang into action. He witnessed Brody being attacked by the bird under the confines of a lawn chair. Paternal instincts kicked in and within seconds Brody’s dad scared away the foul fowl.”

Brody showed visible signs of skin trauma from the hawk’s assault.

Please be careful, you never know what can happen… even in your own back yard.

About two weeks before Christmas 2009 an 85-lb German shepherd named Deacon went missing from his family home in rural Virginia. After a couple weeks the family gave up hope and assumed the dog died or had been stolen. In late February an animal control officer from Florida called to report he had Deacon at his shelter! The Holts believe Deacon was stolen by people who had hoped to breed him, unaware that he had been neutered. Thanks to a microchip, Deacon is now back with his family in Virginia!
Updated List 3-05-2010. We want to offer our rescued dogs currently in boarding with a better chapter to their lives. We are calling this our BRIDGE TO A NEW LIFE! program. Fostering benefits a dog in so many ways and ultimately makes them much happier, better socialized and more adoptable. You help us by keeping a dog at home and providing, love, consistency of walks/exercise and appropriate nutrition. In return you take a good dog and make them a better super fantastic dog! You become their bridge to a happy and balanced life. If you are interested or need additional details about this program (including compensation available for fostering) or if you know someone that would be interested please contact Stephanie at stephaniel@animaladvocatesalliance.org.
Milla is a Staffordshire Terrier who was found as a stray in the Beverlywood area of Los Angeles on February 7, 2010. A member of the too often misunderstood, neglected, abused and victimized staffie/pit bull breed, Milla was so happy to have found a companion in her rescuer. Unfortunately Milla did not have a microchip and there were no signs of anyone looking for their lost pet. Milla did not have a collar or a tag and was found with a chain around her neck. She also appeared to have been wandering the streets for a while as she was found very skinny and tired. Milla is an extremely sweet little Staffie. She weighs approximately 50 lbs and is between 2 and 3 years old. She absolutely loves people and is completely fine with other dogs (big and small). She loves treats and is very gentle. She knows how to sit on command and listens attentively. She’s currently in great need of a foster home (or even better a forever home). If you are interested in meeting Milla or can open your home to foster this sweet dog please email Phillip at PhillipG@AnimalAdvocatesAlliance.org.

Title: Baldwin Park Shelter Volunteer Day
Location: Baldwin Park Shelter – 4275 N. Elton St., Baldwin Park, CA 91706
Description: If participating for the first time, we will be walking, grooming, socializing, and photographing as many dogs and cats as possible, after which we will circulate an electronic flyer to a large distribution group for networking. You will need to complete the following LA County volunteer application and the shelter’s volunteer orientation to volunteer at the shelter: LA County Volunteer Application

Please also make sure to wear your county volunteer t-shirt or AAA shirt.
(you may purchase an LA County Volunteer t-shirt for $10 at the shelter following completion of orientation).

Additional Details:

*Please plan to meet around 9:00 a.m. The shelter address is 4275 N. Elton St., Baldwin Park, 91706. From any location west of downtown LA, take the 10 Freeway east, merge onto 605 North and exit Ramona – stay on left hand lane as you will need to make a Left turn once you pass the train tracks to make sure you stay on Ramona. Turn Left on Elton. Elton is a very small street (almost an alley), so it is easy to miss the street sign. Keep your eyes peeled!
* Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and be aware that your clothes and shoes WILL get dirty!
* Try to eat breakfast, and bring along an energy bar or snack and some water for lunch, as we normally do not have time to take an extended lunch break

Thank you for challenging yourself to make the time to help wonderful shelter animals!

Date: 2010-03-07

Hello, my name is Junior and I am a perfect gentleman! My family left me at the shelter, probably because they thought I was too old, and I sat there for over a month while I was passed over for younger dogs. Lucky for me, I was rescued and am now living in a great foster home where they take me on walks (which I love) and treat me nicely, but I need to find my forever home. I know I’m not a spring chicken but the vet says I am in good health and probably around 8 or 9 years old. I definitely have several good years left and just want a nice family that will appreciate my calm nature and mellow demeanor. The volunteers at the shelter said that I am a perfect role model for a balanced and well-behaved dog. I live with a 5 year old boy who likes to nap on me, so I wouldn’t mind having some kids around to keep me company! Please give an older and wiser guy like me a chance – I promise not to disappoint!!

If you are interested in adopting Junior, please contact Animal Advocates Alliance at info@animaladvocatesalliance.org or at 310.285.8422. You will also need to complete and submit the following online adoption application: ONLINE APPLICATION

Good nutrition and some TLC will heal Scout from his years of neglect. Scout is an excellent companion – a true best friend.
